Cooperation of regional representations with European Commission

Cooperation of regional representations with European Commission

The new President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and her team of European Commissioners took office on 1 December 2019 for a 5- year term (2019 - 2024)

EC cooperation with regional representations

The regional offices based in Brussels are important partners in the field of regional policy. The community of accredited offices is therefore regularly invited for consultations with the European Commission's Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy. Since July 2019, this cooperation has been organized in two different formats and hosted by the European Commission. Themes are selected on the basis of the needs of the regional offices and the Commission's political priorities.

Creating a European Research Area

Through the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation the Commission also develops EU research and technological development policies and contributes to the international competitiveness of European industry. The Commission's Framework Program for Research and Technological Development provides tens of billions of euros for multidisciplinary collaborative scientific research within the EU and is a key contributor to creating a research area without frontiers across Europe.
