Košice Region Brussels Office

After four years, the Permanent representation of the Košice Self-governing region to the EU in Brussels restarted its activities on March 4, 2019.

The official reopening of the Košice Region Brussels Office took place on April 10, 2019. The ceremony was attended by several dozen Slovak, Czech and other foreign partners. Following the example of developed regions, the Košice Self-governing region is the second Slovak region after the Bratislava Self-governing region to have its permanent representation to the EU in Brussels.

The activities of Košice Region Brussels Office fall within the remit of the Department of European Affairs. The Office is run by two permanent employees of the Košice Self-governing region.

Based on the mutual employee exchange agreement between the Košice Self-governing region and the European Commission a function of Advisor for special projects was established on July 1, 2019 for a period of two years. The main role of an employee in a given position is the coordination of foreign relations of the Košice Self-governing region in relation to the EU institutions, the coordination of special projects that the Region is a part of, the participation in business meetings resulting from responsibility for projects at both European and international level and last but not least the external representation of the Košice Self-governing region towards foreign partners.
